So Much to Read
For the past several years, I have had the same New Year’s resolution – to read two books a week. I got the idea from former U.S. President, Bill Clinton, who reportedly read two books a week while in office. I figure, if the President can do it, it should be easy for everyone else, right? Well, needless to say, I haven’t yet accomplished this elusive feat. It bears mentioning that I am married, have a 13-month-old daughter, and am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in sociology (if journal articles counted as books, I would have fulfilled my goal a thousand times over).
Excuses, excuses.
This year (2009), I decided to be a tiny bit more realistic and resolved to read 100 books in 365 days, and promised, in a public forum, to post about every book. This has not yet happened, and here we are in mid-May, so now I am biting the bullet and creating a forum just for this purpose. To further simplify things, books started in previous years count as long as I finish them this year.
So, will she do it? Either way, this blog will be a place for book talk, not only to keep me accountable, but to help me think about and use what I’ve read. And, if I end up needing suggestions about what to read next, I’ll ask right here.
While I enjoy pretty much all genres (with the exception of horror), biographies are my favorites, as well as books about race, religion, and/or politics. Hope this turns out to be fun!
Thanks for stopping by. Let’s see if I do better this year. Good luck with your reading, too.
hey, better luck next year? i’ll be giving it a shot myself.
